Foothills Animal Shelter (FAS -- formerly Table Mountain Animal Center) doesn't just rescue cats and dogs. They have a wide variety of small critters too, such as rabbits, chinchillas, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, reptiles, birds and even fish. They turn no animal away, large or small.
Just like dogs and cats, FAS adopts out these wonderful creatures that make great pets when placed with the right family. Perhaps your house is too small for a dog or cat. Then maybe a hamster or guinea pig is right for you. Are the kids asking for a dog, but you don't think they are quite ready? Small mammals are a great place to start. Perhaps you live in an apartment and need a quiet pet. Getting a fish or reptile might be the answer. FAS is showcasing these animals in their very special Critter Corner area of the shelter. Come in for a visit and learn more about these creatures and maybe take one home.
To celebrate March madness at FAS, they are offering special adoption rates for smaller animals. Adoption fees for small critters range from $10 to $50. During the month of March, anyone adopting small critters will get $2 off their adoption rates. FAS also provides home-care education for these special pets when adopting.
Last August, FAS moved into a brand new, 33,000-sq.-ft. facility that includes special housing for small critters. Most importantly, the Critter Corner has individual temperature controls in each hutch so that each animal is in its correct environment. To learn more about small critters, come visit the shelter, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new shelter is located at 580 McIntyre Street on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds just off of 6th Avenue and Indiana in Golden.
