A 2013 Colorado State Golden Gloves Champion, Steven Nelson is an 'odds-on favorite'.

This coming week is ‘March Madness’, the NCAA Basketball Tournament, but it’s ‘March Boxing Madness’ as well.

Running March 26-29 at the Crowne Plaza Events Center, 15500 E. 40th Ave. in Denver (I-70 & Chambers), the 2014 Colorado State Golden Gloves Tournament amateur boxing competition begins Wednesday evening (March 26th) culminating Saturday night (March 29th) with competitors looking to have their hand raised as a 2014 Colorado State Golden Gloves Champion.

The Colorado Golden Gloves Hall-Of-Fame Banquet is held prior to the Finals on Saturday night (at the same Crowne Plaza Events Center), this year’s 5 (five) inductees being Don Perko (boxer), Rich Beall (announcer), Ernest ‘Red’ Martinez (boxer), Glenn DePriest (coach) and posthumously, Margarito ‘Muggsy’ Berzoza (official).

Tickets can be purchased at the door on any given night with questions regarding the Hall-Of-Fame Banquet or other concerns answered by calling, 303-594-0123.

This past Saturday morning the Mile High Sports (94.1FM) ‘Sports Weekend’ radio show, hosted by Michael Klahr, featured Colorado Golden Gloves Chairman Jesse Mora and Colorado Golden Gloves Vice-Chairman E. Paul Kelly, Jr. as in-studio guests along with (via phone) U.S. Army WCAP (World Class Athlete Program) Head Boxing Coach Charles Leverette, discussing the upcoming 2014 Colorado State Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament.

There are many talented amateur boxers from around the state that will be competing in this Rocky’s Autos sponsored event, the likes of Melik ‘Hit Man’ Elliston, Juaquin Camarena, Bobo Cervantes, Misael Lopez, Steven Nelson, Luis Vasquez, Andres Borrego, Shon Mondragon, Carlos Carrillo, Jonathan Jarabek, Brendon and Christian Torres, Elmer Monarrez, Andrew Strode and Nemo ‘Baby Hulk’ Ioane, just a few who should make things interesting.
