March Madness brings workers together

Has March Madness infected your workplace? According to a survey conducted by OfficeTeam, the craziness that people feel each year about their favorite NCAA basketball teams is actually a good thing that can have a positive effect on workplace productivity and morale.

In fact, out of the 1,000 senior managers that were surveyed, 22 percent said that March Madness can improve productivity and 41 percent said that they felt that it can be a boost to employee morale.

"The NCAA basketball tournament is a common topic of conversation at the office as employees may share college allegiances," said OfficeTeam’s executive director Robert Hosking. "It can be a healthy diversion if employers encourage team-building activities tied to the games."

In order to foster this kind of workplace camaraderie, Hosking suggests that bosses try to incorporate March Madness activities into the workplace—such as by organizing outings to watch some of the games.
