March is National Middle Level Education Month

Did you know that March is National Middle Level Education Month? In this month, emphasis is placed on the education of middle schools and their performance. It’s a time to celebrate middle grades! According to news source MiddleWeb “This year, NASSP, the Association for Middle Level Education, the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform, and the National Association of Elementary Principals have joined together to promote and celebrate this critical time in the educational and developmental lives of young adolescents.”

This year, emphasis will be placed on improving graduation rates and preparation for college. One way in raising the bar is by raising the literacy rate of our students. The most effective way to improve on literacy and learning is to encourage more reading and foster a love for books in middle school students. In doing this, their development will lend for an easier transition into high school and college.

For the month of March, here is a list of interesting books that are great for middle school level reading:

1. Capture the Flag by Kate Messner
2. Middle School, My Brother is a Big Fat Liar by James Patterson

5. Treasure on Superstition Mountain, Book Two (Second book in the Superstition Mountain Mysteries series) by Elise Broach
