March Blood Drives!

Volunteering can look a lot of different ways.  Sometimes it means giving your time, sometimes it's giving your money, and sometimes it means giving something a little less traditional.  Sickness and injury strike randomly and unless you're in the medical profession, they probably leave you feeling very helpless.  2010 has opened with two devastating earthquakes, and everyone is looking for a way to help.  Giving blood is one of the most direct ways to help the sick and injured people in the world.  And although everyone says they want to help, there is never enough donated blood to supply all the people who need it.

On March 6-13th, the Red Cross is hosting blood drives in locations all over Columbus.  For hours, maps and directions, see

Carriage Place Donor Center (Dublin)

Stoneridge Donor Center (Gahanna)

Polaris Donor Center (Lewis Center)

Westbelt Donor Center (Hilliard)

Richland Donor Center (Mansfield)

Licking Donor Center (Newark)

T-shirts and cupcakes will be offered to all donors.  You can visit the above website or call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule your appointment. For a successful donation, remember to eat iron rich food for the week before your appointment (greens, beans, or supplements) and drink plenty of fluids on the day that you plan to donate.  Anyone who has ever received a transfusion will thank you.

Thanks for all of this useful information! I hope at some point your column becomes more global, and you can offer the same advice for where to go for those of us all the way in San Francisco!
