This recognized day can mean so many different things to different people, and yet still be considered a general theme for the observed day. From personal achievements in work and home, to recognizing women's contributions in politics and society, International Women's Day has changed over the years to encompass so many more aspects to celebrate women around the world.

The theme for International Women's Day 2014 is: Inspiring Change. This can be the main focus of many different aspects of life for women including equality, advocacy and advancement in numerous areas. Encouraging women and their rights are important steps to inspire change in the world that we have today.

Anyone can recognize International Women's Day, even those Calgary families that do not have girls. No matter what age or sex your children are, it is important to teach them about how women should be treated as equals, the struggles they face in society, the workplace and in political areas. By informing your children about struggles of others, they become more empathetic and will be more apt to be a part of the solution rather than the problem.
