Friday March 7th, all but one shop is holding a tasting Friday. One yet to report is usually late, so it will be updated as we have their information. Other wine shops provided zero data, but we understand why, and expect they are holding a tasting, so watch for those special notes in today’s posting.
The variety is extraordinary, with one offering wines form new wine areas, another from a Oregon, while all the others doing some version of these two approaches, including two on Washington wines. Really, the depth of tastings, this week, is notable.
If you have been awaiting a week with variety and depth, this is it! Venture out, learn something about wines, and about what wines you like; maybe one or two new ones!

”Doug Culver of C & G Wines will be pouring selections from Washington, France and Sardinia:
Cri de Roche NV Brut French Sparkling $11.99
Produced by Jerome Calmes.
Plenty of yeasty and apple-like flavors, crisp, lively acidity, tiny, well-formed bubbles, and a frothy effervescence. There is ripeness plus elegance, as well as a real mid-palate and length - not an easy achievement for a sparkling wine at this price!
”Giogantinu 2012 Vermentino di Gallura $12.99
Pretty, white laced with flowers, mint, light honey and melon. It possesses lovely roundness on the palate and a clean, engaging finish.
”Southard 2011 Columbia Valley White $14.99
69% Roussanne, 31% Viognier. A complex, full-bodied wine with aromas of pear, candied citrus peel, gunflint, fresh pineapple, butterscotch, and dried apricot. Viognier from the Elephant Mountain, Lawrence, StoneTree, and Sugarloaf vineyards and Roussanne from the Lawrence Vineyard. 413 cases produced.
”Southard 2010 Columbia Valley Red $14.99
100% Syrah. Showing aromas of red and black fruit, cocoa, garrigue, and Asian spices with good structure right now and the potential to become a special wine in 3 to 5 years. 337 cases produced.
”Mas de Boislauzon 2012 La Chaussynette Rouge $12.99
A bistro-styled effort that over-delivers, the 2012 Vin de France La Chaussynette (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah aged all in concrete) is a superb effort that offers up notions of dusty cabinet, ground herb, garrigue and sweet red currant-styled fruit. Medium-bodied, supple and with a fleshy texture, it should be consumed over the coming handful of years. Drink now-2016.
Run by the brother and sister team of Daniel and Christine Chaussy, this brilliant estate covers just over 20 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape, most of which are in the northern part. They produce up to three Chateauneufs in top vintages and one white. In addition, their Vin de France and Cotes du Rhone Villages are always superb and sell for a song.
”Kalem's Down 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills "The Benches Vineyard" $14.99
100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Big, meaty effort that has ripe, black cherry, licorice, new saddle leather and wild herb aromas and flavors to go with a voluptuously textured, supple and well-defined mouthfeel. This is one of the best deals we've seen from single vineyard, WA state, Cabernet.”

“Weekly Guest Winemaker: Seven Bridges
“When Sat, March 8, 6pm – 8pm
“DescriptionSeven Bridges is a small urban winery founded in Portland, Oregon in 2008. Our focus is to create the type of wine that we love to drink-rich, full bodied red wines. Seven Bridges Winery is a labor of love that combines our passions for wine, chemistry, and creativity. We use labor-intensive, manual production techniques to produce our premium, flavorful red wines. Our grapes are handpicked, sorted, and crushed, then fermented in small lots. After a gentle pressing, the wines are aged in French and American oak barrels. We truly hope you enjoy this wine as much as we did making it.

Tuscan Treasures, pt.1!!
ou know there is a lot to love when we have to stretch a regional tasting into two parts. Such is the case with tomorrow’s flight (and part 2 in two weeks) of wine as we explore every corner of the beautiful Tuscan winemaking scene. These are wines I adore for the character and food affinity they possess. Sangiovese doesn’t taste like this from anywhere else! This is an evening of sangiovese in all its delicious forms, and once again after tasting these wines at these prices you’ll have a better understanding of why I’ve never carried domestic sangiovese at VINO. When you can drink better for less from there source, why bother? So just a quick intro this week, because these are what need to be taken note of….
-2011 PERAZZETA Sangiovese Toscana “Sara” $11.95
-2010 FATTORIA DI BASCIANO Chianti Rufina $14.95
-2011 VITICCIO “Bere” Sangiovese-Cab-Merlot $15.95
-2009 CASALOSTE Chianti Classico $19.95…we’ve had this wine in tastings before, but every time I have it I am blown away at how good it is. It is truly a classic! 90 pts-Wine Spectator
-2010 LA QUERCIOLINA Montecucco 20.95…just had this yesterday and thought it was stunning. Deep, dark, brooding sangiovese gross. Great wine from Montalcino!
And then we amp it up as always with our bonus selections…
Bonus #1-2010 FRESCOBALDI Chianti Rufina Riserva “Nipozzano” $23.95…92 pts-Wine Spectator
Bonus #2-2007 CASA EMMA Chianti Classico Riserva $28.95…90 pts-Wine Spectator
Bonus #3-2008 COL D’ORCIA Brunello di Montalcino $48.95…serious, serious wine here! 94 pts-Wine Advocate; 91 pts- Wine Spectator
