August 29, 2005 was supposed to be the happiest day for Nolan Hayes and his pregnant wife Abigail, who has just gone into early labor. However tragically his wife dies while giving birth and their premature daughter born five weeks early is put on a ventilator until she can breathe on her own. Meanwhile Hurricane Katrina strikes and ravages the hospital, plunging it into darkness and forcing an evacuation. Told to stay with his daughter and wait for a transfer by ambulance, the rising floodwaters and power outages leave them stranded with no help in sight. As Nolan faces one life-and-death decision after another to keep his daughter alive, each second, minute becomes unimaginable hours.
