The NMC Student Government Association and NMC Student Life Office are holding a special event on Friday, March 21. 2014 at the Dennos Museum, to raise awareness of the importance of college students, with young families, securing quality childcare for their children while attending NMC.

Statistics show that college students who are raising young children are less likely to complete their educational goals due to the economic challenges of balancing academics and family responsibilities. Since 1990, one year before the Dennos Museum was built, NMC has provided scholarship monies for NMC students with children through the SGA Childcare Scholarship Award.

The purpose of the event on Friday, March 21st is to raise awareness and additional funds for the Scholarship, highlight resources available in the Traverse City community for quality childcare, and celebrate NMC students who are successful in both their journey as a parent, and a student.

The event begins at 5:30 pm with appetizers, a silent auction, and time for participants to view vendor tables highlighting childcare advocates and providers in the area. The evening will commence with a keynote speaker and student testimonials on the importance of a college education and the need for resources to care for young children of college students.

This will be an informative and inspirational evening you don't want to miss out on. Benefits like these are not possible without the generous participation of community members like yourself. Please consider joining NMC Student Government Association and NMC Student Life for this event by considering the following:

  • Sign up to be a vendor at the event
  • Consider donating an item for the silent auction
  • Attend the event to show support to NMC students and their families

For additional information or questions regarding this event, please contact Lisa Thomas, NMC Associate Dean of Student Life, at 231.995.1118 or lthomas@nmc.edu.

"Thank you in advance for your support of the most important resource we have in northern Michigan: strong children and families!" - Lisa Thomas, NMC Associate Dean of Student Life
