March 2013 Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society meeting

This coming Saturday, March 23, 2013, The Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society will have their monthly meeting. This month’s presentation will be “Plants of Hager Lake – A Rare North Idaho Peatland”, given by Derek Antonelli. Derek is an Idaho Master Naturalist, and the President of the Coeur d’Alene Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society (Calypso); he also does habitat analysis and vegetation monitoring for Idaho Fish and Game. He will talk about the plants in and around Hager Lake. Hager Lake was carved by glaciers and contains a one acre mat of floating moss that supports numerous species of rare plants. The lake is located west of Priest Lake, on Hwy 57.

The meeting will be held at Community hall (the log building across from the County Courthouse) at 204 W. First Avenue, Sandpoint, ID 83864, at 9:45 a.m.
