March 1 entry deadline is nearing for women's state in Sarasota area

The March 1 entry deadline is fast approaching for the Florida State USBC Women's Bowling Association's annual championship tournament, which will be hosted by two centers in the Sarasota-Bradenton area beginning in May.

The four-player team event will be conducted at Sarasota Lanes, with doubles and singles competition at AMF Bradenton Lanes. The 2012 women's state championships will span five weekends, starting May 5-6 and concluding June 2-3.

Entries submitted early -- prior to Feb. 1 -- were subject to regular fees, which were established at $25 per woman per event, plus an optional all-events fee of $5. In addition, optional scratch competition is offered at $5 per event. However, all remaining entries submitted until the final March 1 entry deadline require an additional $20 fee.

There will be only one tournament division, and handicap will be 100 percent of 220. Entrants will use their highest United States Bowling Congress certified average for the 2010-11 winter league season, provided that the submitted average is based on 21 games or more. If a bowler didn't establish such average, they may may use highest current-season USBC-certified average for 21 games or more as of April 1. Bowlers who don't qualify under those requirements will bowl without handicap.

Bowlers may participate twice in the team event only; however, at least two players in the lineup must differ in order to place more than once in the prize list for position standings. If a player bowls on two teams, her score for the first team will count for purposes of all-events placement.

The prize payout will be on a 1-in-8 ratio with regard to handicap payouts, while prizes in scratch and all-events competition will be on a 1-in-10 basis.

Team event squads will be at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. and noon Sundays, while singles and doubles squads will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Complete rules and information can be found on the entry blanks, which are available in most bowling centers throughout the state. In addition, you can view and/or download the official entry blank by clicking here.
