Marché

I have to tell you about this place. If it's Saturday or Sunday morning, or any day for that matter, and you're looking for a place for brunch or a late lunch or anything in between - basically, if you need to eat somewhere between morning and afternoon on any given day, go to Marché in East Nashville. If you pass LP Field and go east, you will hit Marché at 1000 Main Street. During the week, except for Monday, they are open from 8am to 9pm, and on the weekend, brunch is served from 8am-4pm on Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday. There's easy parking right next to the building, and, as much as Marché is a wonderful restaurant, it is also a specialty food store, selling gourmet groceries and tremendous baked goods. The prices are extremely friendly and so are the employees.

I went to Marché on a Sunday around 2pm. I've heard that it is very difficult to get a table on weekend mornings, but by 2pm we got a table right away even though the restaurant seemed entirely full. The atmosphere is lovely; there are windows all along one half of the sitting area, making the area feel very light and comfortable. Marché is very much reminiscent of a French bistro - the atmosphere, the space and the menu. Their menu does seem to change often; on the day I was there, the menu was dated from just three days before. If they're still on the menu, on the beverage side, the mulled wine and blood orange mimosa are good bets. My smoked salmon tartine was also wonderful. But, please, I implore you, leave room for dessert. I'm sure that everything on their impressive dessert list is amazing, but, I must say, the espresso chocolate cake with caramel icing is, well... I'd lick the plate. Go to Marché. Soon.
