Everything comes within due time. Marc Anthony’s decision to sing salsa which also led him to his Spanish crossover was when he heard and loved the ballad ‘Hasta que te conocí’ (Until I Met You’) by Mexican artist Juan Gabriel. Marc was with his associate’s sister when she played the song for him. “That was the spark that made me want to sing in Spanish.” He contacted Ralph Mercado of RMM and recorded it in salsa version with Sergio George. “From the beginning I had specific ideas of how I wanted to do things and that’s how I did it.” It was history from then on. He received his first platinum award in 1993 for his first Spanish album 'Otra Nota' at Miami’s Combinación Perfecta Concert (The Perfect Combination). The album included ‘Hasta que te conocí’ among other big hits.
From 1993 Marc had recorded with RMM two albums, ‘Todo a su Tiempo’ (1995) and ‘Contra la Corriente’ (1997) before moving on with Sony Records in 1999. He immediately recorded ‘Marc Anthony’ that included English and Spanish songs and did the same with ‘Mended’ in 2002, ‘Libre’ (2001), in 2004 ‘Amar sin Mentiras’ a Latin pop album and ‘Valio la Pena’. In 2006 he recorded his greatest Spanish hits album, ‘Sigo Siendo Yo’ and in 2007 recorded the soundtrack of the movie in which he starred in ‘El Cantante’. Marc’s most recent album, ‘Iconos’, is a tribute album that contains Latin pop and old Latin ballads of José José, Juan Gabriel, Roberto Carlos, La Mafia as well José Luis Perales and two songs written by Julio Reyes. Marc’s recordings also include duets wife Jennifer Lopez, La Quinta Estación and La India.
Marc’s singing career hasn’t gone unnoticed since he’s received numerous awards: two Grammy’s, three Latin Grammys, ten Billboard Latin Music Awards, nineteen Premios Lo Nuestro Awards and recently Latin Grammys nominated him for Best Male Pop Vocal Album category for ‘Iconos’.
Not only is Marc a successful singer, songwriter and producer that have included special appearances and special recognition for his career and charitable contributions, but also an actor. His acting has taken him through several roles thus far about 12 different roles from East Side Story (1988) to his most recent in the TV series Hawthorne. Among all of his accomplishments, Marc’s latest venture is with NFL’s team Miami Dolphins as a minority owner.
