Your ears need to open up and be graced with the music of
Marbin. The jazz duo of Dani Rabin and Danny Markovitch has some well played out pieces of smooth music for your listening pleasure. Caught in between old school and new jazz, the ten track disc is mellow and has some awesome jazz-fusion fundamentals. The new disc is simply called Marbin and has great compositions to be heard.
Part of the CD has a style of Pink Floyd and can be heard within the more modern styling of music present on the disc. An influence of Dave Gilmour and Al DiMeola can be heard within the guitar which are tough acts to duplicate in any kind of a way. On Saxophone the sounds of Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, and John Coltrane can be heard within the wonderful melodic runs. Together these two fantastic musicians make up the sweet group called Marbin.
Recorded at Rattlesnake Studios by sound engineer Caleb Willitz this CD was mixed beautifully and has a nice contrast within the mix. The opening track “Abadaba” has a certain warm feeling that will be a nice gem to listen to this winter around the fire with a mug of your favorite hot tasty beverage. You won’t know what is truly keeping you warm, the music or the beverage.
Most of the songs on the disc are instrumentals surrounded heavily by jazz solos, runs, and musical layout. As the music flows through from one song to the next there is a familiarity, a déjà vu sort of feeling.
The song “Mei” is the only song that is not a full instrumental. Matt Davidson applies his singing capabilities to the song and allows vocals to break through the song in a very subtle way. The accent he applies fit the piece and gives a tribal, church, religious entity feeling to the group. Almost sounds like Gregorian chant.
All the tracks submitted on the disc are just wonderful. The songs “Crystal Bells,” “Biwako,” and “Rust” could all be appearing on some soft jazz radio stations soon. All of these songs have such an awesome style and sound to them. Just beauty to your ears and listening senses.
Between the sax and guitar the music is a nice trade off of the two instruments. Both Rabin and Markovitch perform their parts well and don’t overplay when it’s their time to solo. The self titled CD Marbin would make a great stocking stuffer for jazz enthusiasts everywhere. If you are making a list and checking it twice, triple check your list to make sure this collection of songs is on the list. It has been given Santa’s stamp of approval.
