Outdoor racing season is just around the corner and there are ways to get in shape for your upcoming marathon or triathlon. Different training groups are offered for different levels of athletic ability so you can prepare yourself to walk, jog or run your way to the finish line.

Those participating in the 2010 Kaiser Permanente Great Aloha Run can sign up for official training sessions. Classes are led by GAR In Programs Training Director, Dr. Christine W. Christ. Participants meet every Sunday from December 20 - February 7 at 7:20 am at Kapi’olani Park Bandstand. If you are a registered Great Aloha Run participant, classes (valued at $185) are free!

Each session consists of a training topic, warm up, training by time and distance, cool down, stretching and a short chat session. The 8-week progressive training increases in distance and time every week.

Training topics include
· How to train injury-free
· How to fuel for great workouts
· How to recover from training
· When and how to taper
· What (and what not) to wear for the race
· Race logistics - how to get there, where to park, etc.

Visit the Great Aloha Run website for more information

For those who have military access, special training sessions for the triathlon season are available at Pearl Harbor. This 8 week training course accommodates beginners and experienced athletes alike and covers training in all three components: swimming, biking and running.

Practices involve brick work (such as biking and running), practicing transitions, spin workouts and pool workouts. Classes take place at Richardson pool from 4:30-6:30 pm at Richardson Pool. Mondays cover a bike and run workout and Wednesdays cover a swim and run workout.

Three different sessions are offered and are limited to the first 30 people. Cost and session dates are:
$175 per person (March 1-April 14)
$150 per person (April 19-May 26)
$150 per person (June 14-July 21)

There is a $15 charge for those who want to take drop-in classes. Training sessions are led by Carla Myers, a personal trainer at Bloch Arena and coordinator/coach for Team Jet Mililani marathon training
