Marath, Will of the Wild is the newest "Magic: The Gathering" card spoiled today Oct. 8, 2013. Revealed in an article by Trick Jarrett on DailyMtg.com, Marath, Will of the Wild will be featured in Wizards of the Coast's upcoming multiplayer product "Commander" (2013 Edition)."
Marath, Will of the Wild - RGW
Legendary Creature - Elemental Beast (Mythic Rare)
Marath, Will of the Wild enters the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the amount of mana spent to cast it.X, Remove X +1/+1 counters from Marath: Choose one — Put X +1/+1 counters on target creature; or Marath deals X damage to target creature or player; or put an X/X green Elemental creature token onto the battlefield. X can’t be 0.
If you look closely on the card, you'll notice that "X can't be 0" isn't actually written on it. According to Jarrett:
Marath will be receiving errata upon release. The text "X can't be 0" was inadvertently left off the card.
If you have a way of generating infinite mana in your deck then you'll be able to win with Marath, Will of the Wild simply by casting it from your command zone and sacrificing this Elemental Beast to deal damage to your enemies over and over again.
Like Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge and Prossh, Skyraider of Kher, Marath, Will of the Wild grows stronger each time it hits the command zone and you recast it. Because Marath, Will of the Wild deals with +1/+1 counters Doubling Season allows it to enter the battlefield twice as large and put double the amount of counters on one of your creatures.
Marath, Will of the Wild can do an impressive amount of damage to your opponent's creatures, allowing you to gain a significant amount of card advantage over the course of a long game. Targeting Marath, Will of the Wild will be troublesome for your rivals if you leave mana open because you'll always be able to respond by burning them or creating another large creature.
Marath, Will of the Wild joins Olora, Agless Ascetic, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge, and Prossh, Skyraider of Kher as the fifth "face card" on the front of the "Commander (2013 Edition)" packaging.
