Diego Armando Maradona was fined for verbal abuse against a rival trainer in the United Arab Emirates league after a few hours of playing tennis with the number one tennis player of the year, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic.
Maradona finished his friendly tennis game with Djokovic and was later notified that he had been fined $2,450 for verbal abuse against a rival coach. Djokovic is in Dubai training for an upcoming tennis tournament in Quatar.
The Argentine legend, Maradona , is the coach of Al Wasl and was accused of verbally attacking Cosmin Olaroiu, coach of rival team Al Ain during a match that had occurred a month before. In that match, Maradona had sustained a loss and got into a verbal confrontation with Olaroiu.
The captain and World Cup champion of the 1986 Argentine squad, Diego Armando Maradona, complained that Olaroiu and his club team celebrated a goal in a very unprofessional manner. He also went on to say that Cosmin Olaroiu is an uneducated person.
The Romanian coach, Olaroiu, who is also there in the United Arab Emirates for the first year as a coach, defended himself by stating that Maradona is “not right in the head,” because of brain damage from drug use.
However, despite the nasty insults thrown back and forth, Olaroiu was not fined, because club team Al Wasl did not file a complaint like Al Ain did against Maradona.
Club team Al Wasl did file a complaint about Al Ain fans for throwing projectiles at Al Wasl fans. The disciplinary commission of the league turned down the complaint. Apparently, there was not sufficient evidence for this complaint to be pursued.
Since May of this year, Maradona has been a major figure of the United Arab Emirates league. He’s been criticizing the officiating in the league and has stated that his criticizing has brought the league to dislike his club team, Al Wasl.
