In these past few years there has been a major uprising in "green" and "eco-friendly" living and lifestyles. It's no where near a new idea to live this way, but in this writer's opinion, it's an excellent trend we've got going on here.
Farmer's Markets have become far more popular, offering local people fresh, delicious foods that are likewise, locally grown. Mar Vista Farmer's Market, on Grand View and Venice, is one of the most popular on the West Side. Every Sunday from 9am-2pm, rain or shine, except major holidays.
Taking your kids to the Farmer's Market is a wonderful way to expose them to a large variety of foods that are seasonal. You can teach them about the changing seasons while showing them the product of the season we are currently in. While enjoying the beautiful rainbow of fruits and vegetables, you will find most vendors offer samples so you can also taste the beauty. What a great way to expose your children to different flavors.
The market doesn't just sell fruits and veggies though. You'll also find hummus, cheese, bread, eggs, nuts, baked goods, and a large variety of made to order food stands giving you a taste of local flavors. You'll also find a great homemade cleaning supply stand and of course a wonderful honey stand where the kids will be begging for a 25 cent honey stick to snack on.
Every week they offer arts and crafts for the kids, and usually face painting and a balloon artist. There is always free dog sitting and information on the community of Mar Vista. The 1st Sunday of every month you can also expect to find many local crafters and artists with booths full of their gorgeous works.
