In 1993, advertising executive Joe Doucette abruptly gets kidnapped and held as a prisoner in solitary confinement for 20 years for no apparent reason. During the time he is held hostage, he finds out through the news that he was framed for the rape and murder of his ex-wife and his young daughter Mia has been adopted. Intent on finding out who is responsible for all this, he spends his time planning his revenge. One day in 2013, he is inexplicably released and he begins an obsessive mission to track down the person or people involved. Teaming up with a young, caring social worker named Marie, they search for answers that lead them to The Stranger, the mastermind behind all this. The Stranger challenges Joe to figure out who he is and why he set Joe free. To get Joe to play along, The Stranger promises to give him $20 million in diamonds, commit suicide and release Mia who he has kidnapped. Digging deeper, Joe finds his freedom is short-lived as he falls into a treacherous web of conspiracy that even death cannot save him from.

DVD and Blu-ray special features include two behind-the-scenes featurettes: “The Making of Oldboy,” detailing the fight choreography in the film; and “Transformation,” taking fans on an in-depth exploration of Doucette’s character. Exclusive to Blu-ray are alternate and extended scenes, a short promo spot including clips from the workout video in the film, and “Talking Heads,” an additional featurette providing overview of the Oldboy story line.
