From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee comes the Oscar-winning inspirational epic adventure drama film Life of Pi. Based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name and the adapted screenplay by David Magee, it stars newcomer Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Gérard Depardieu, Tabu, and Adil Hussain. It earned 11 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Visual Effects, and Best Adapted Screenplay and won 4 including Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score. It was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture – Drama and Best Director, and won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score by Mychael Danna.
The film follows the adventures of a young Indian man named Pi Patel who sets off on a voyage from Pondicherry, India to Winnipeg, Canada with his family and the animals from their zoo. One night, a disastrous storm sinks the ship, killing his family and the crew. Marooned on a lifeboat after the storm, he finds himself with an injured zebra and an orangutan. Suddenly, a hyena emerges from under the tarp covering half the boat and kills the two creatures. Then the fearsome 450-pound Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker appears from under the tarp and kills the hyena. As the only two survivors stranded in the Pacific Ocean, they are hurtled on an incredible journey of adventure and discovery as he and his majestic, yet dangerous, companion make an amazing and unexpected connection to stay alive for 227 days until reaching the coast of Mexico.
The DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D include the documentary “A Remarkable Vision.” Exclusively on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D are gallery and storyboard stills, plus two documentaries: “A Filmmaker’s Epic Journey” and “Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright.” Only available on Blu-ray 3D are 3D/2D deleted scenes and 3D/2D VFX progressions.
