Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren team up in the provocative biographical drama film Hitchcock directed by Sacha Gervasi. It is based on Stephen Rebello's non-fiction book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho and boasts a stellar supporting cast including Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Jessica Biel and James D’Arcy. The film has earned an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Mirren received both a Golden Globe and SAG nomination for her outstanding performance as Hitchcock’s wife Alma Reville.
In 1959, after a reporter hints it is time for Hollywood legend Alfred Hitchcock to retire, he is plagued by self-doubt despite the success of his latest film North by Northwest. In an effort to prove himself, he becomes obsessed with the grisly murder story loosely based on the heinous crimes of serial killer Ed Gein. Although his wife Alma and collaborators are equally appalled by his latest project Psycho, he decides to risk his reputation and even his marriage to make the film on his own. Initially destined to flop, ultimately he wins Alma over and the two join forces to create one of cinema’s most iconic horror masterpieces.
