Rusty on your compass skills?  Or perhaps you have never ventured off-trail and want to learn about the basics of using a map and compass.  The Albuquerque REI has an upcoming session for you.

The expected audience for the course are newbies to map and compass.  It will cover:

  • map symbols
  • orienting the map and compass
  • triangulation
  • declination adjustment
  • reading terrain features

Registration is required and space is limited.  There are only ten seats left.  Call to register at: 505-247-1191 (extension 0).

Cost: $15.00
Date: Saturday, 2/13/2010
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Albuquerque REI

Tip: Don't try to use a compass like the one in my photo.  If you want accurate information (which is extremely important when navigating) you'll want to use a full-sized compass that fits into your palm.  You are encouraged to bring your own compass to the class
