On July 21, 2011, the Austin Humane Society (AHS) achieved a milestone. Their Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Return Program that began in March 2007 spayed the 20,000th cat. This free community program utilizes volunteers to trap the cats, transport them to the AHS clinic, and then return them to their original cat colony. Trapping classes and information sessions are held twice a month at AHS located at 124 West Anderson Lane. Click here to review the details of their program.

Two community cat rescue groups in the Austin area are Shadow Cats and Street Cat Rescue

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter located in Georgetown, Texas offers a Free Roaming Cat Program for stray/feral/free-roaming cats in their service area. Click here to read WCRAS policies for free surgical services for free roaming cats. Kittens must weight two pounds and those over four months receive a free rabies vaccine.

The Heart of Texas Feral Friends nonprofit organization provides TNR to cats in the Waco, Texas area. Their program currently offers free spay/neuter and rabies vaccination for any outside cat in zip code 76710. If you don't reside in 76710 but reside in Waco, they can help you. One of the topics discussed during their volunteer classes is how Trap-Neuter-Return saves taxpayers' money!

These dynamic organizations are seeking volunteers and donations to continue their mission. They realize Trap-Neuter-Return is the only humane method of controlling the feral cat population. Feral cats are in our communities through no fault of their own. They are community members and desire to live healthy and safe lives.
