Many green events happening Saturday, April 25

If you are in the Knoxville area this weekend, it is a great time to get outside and join with your community in celebrating Earth Day, Arbor Day, sunshine and springtime. There are many environmental events happening here in our own backyard. Plus, the weather is supposed to cooperate with sunny and 80 degree weather. All of these green events are happening this Saturday, April 25, 2009.

Public Bird Walk
On Saturday from 8 am to 11 am, there will be a public bird walk. It will be at Sharp's Ridge Memorial Park, 329 Sharp's Ridge memorial Drive, Knoxville. It is free and it is for all ages – for more information, call: 865-414-5593.

Spring Plant Sale
The Ijams Spring Plant Sale will have native plants from several local nurseries and experts to answer gardening questions. This event is happening from 9 am to 1 pm at the Ijams Nature Center on 2915 Island Home Blvd. in Knoxville, TN. It is free and open to all ages.

Attracting Hummingbirds
As part of the Spring Plant Sale, at 11 am Chattanooga hummingbird devotee Chris Mahoney will conduct a class on attracting hummingbirds. Mahoney will speak about feeders and plants that work best. This program is free – to register call Sheila at 577-4717, ext. 10.  This event is happening from 9 am to 1 pm at the Ijams Nature Center on 2915 Island Home Blvd. in Knoxville, TN.

Annual Flower & Garden Show & Sale
The University of Tennessee Extension & Sevier County Area Master Gardeners Association will host their annual Flower & Garden show and sale, with educational programs at 10 am, 11 am, and 1 pm, as well as flowers, plants, yard art, and lawn equipment for sale.  Admission is $3 and kids under 12 are admitted for free. It will be held from 9 am to 4 pm at the Sevier County Fairgrounds located at 754 Old Knoxville Highway in Sevierville, TN.

UT Arboretum Society Spring Plant Sale
On Saturday, from 9 am to 3 pm, the UT Arboretum is having their annual spring plant sale. This even is free and open to all ages. The UT Arboretum is located on 901 S. Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge, TN. For more information call 865-483-3571.

Great Dog Rescue
The Animal Rescue is sponsoring an event to adopt or foster local animals. This will take place at the Agri Feed Pet Supply on Middlebrook Pike from 11 to 2 pm at the Agri Feed Pet Supply on 5716 Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville. It is free and open to all ages. Earth Day 2009 Celebration in Oak Ridge
Oak Ridge’s 2nd Annual Earth Day celebration will be held from 11 to 6 pm at Bissell Park in Oak Ridge at 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike. It is a family and pet-friendly, free event featuring great food, homegrown tunage, a dedicated children's park that supports "No Child Left Inside,” artisans and green vendors, animals, enviro-education and prizes.
