Many celebrities speak out against puppy stores, a mainstream cause

It is wonderful to know that across the country, people everywhere are protesting mills and the stores that sell puppies.  Commonly, pet stores owners, like one here in Chicago (Pawsh Puppies) who called protesters "crazy", will paint protesters as "animal rigFrom the HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE U.S.hts nuts," in order to discredit them, marginalize them, and make them seem "extremist" to society.  Far from the truth-- In fact, it's very mainstream to be anti-pet stores!  Loving animals is a common cause we share.

Here are some celebrities who are educated and will not support puppy mills, or buy from a pet shop:

  • Victoria Stillwell, of Animal Planet's "It's Me or the Dog!"
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Dean Koontz, author

No society can claim to be compassionate or enlightened if it tolerates puppy mills in any form." -Dean Koontz

  • Tamar Gellar, celebrity dog trainer
  • Jaime Lee Curtis, famous Hollywood actress
  • Jenna Elfman
  • Heather Mills
  • Patricia Arquette
  • Paris Hilton, recommended adoption on her show
  • Tori Spelling, (pet shop story below) will always adopt

And there was this little tiny runt of the litter, a girl pug. I held her and that was it. This was, again, at the pet store in the Beverly Center. I would never buy one at a pet store now, but I didn't know. I wasn't aware." -Tori Spelling

  • Diane Keaton, actress, said of pet stores "don't go there", has an adopted dog
  • Nick Friedburg, clothing designer
  • "Papi" the dog star of "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" adopted from a county shelter
  • And Many More!!!!

These stars discouraged pet store purchases and educated the public about the cruelty of puppy mills, in HSUS programs:

  • Jennifer Love Hewitt
  • Nathan Lane
  • Kelly Ripa
  • Molly Shannon
  • John Tartaglia
  • Patricia Arquette
  • Linda Dano
  • Carol Leifer

ACTRESS TORI SPELLING'S STORY:Tori Spelling with her pet store Pug, whom she loved.

I originally bought Mimi at a pet store. At the time, like a lot of people, I was uninformed and clueless when it came to rescue work. I had no idea how awful it was to buy a dog from a store instead of rescuing them.

Today I am a huge supporter of animal rescue... Mimi came with a slew of medical problems from the get go. I blame this on the ignorance of pet stores who purchase from puppy mills and contribute to the continuation of inbreeding which causes all sorts of health problems in dogs." -Tori Spelling, founder of the "Mimi LaRue Fund" to help sick and injured pets

AWESOME!!! I guess according to the pet store people, Tori Spelling is crazy. And Oprah is crazy, too!

They are going to make laws to shut down all the puppy mills, but until that comes, we have to make the right decision. If you don't buy from pet shops, less dogs will suffer in the misery of puppy farms.

  • Chicago Puppy-Friendly Pledge 2 years ago

Nearly 50 pet stores throughout the Chicagoland area have vowed not to sell puppies in order to raise awareness about puppy mills and promote local adoptions. The campaign is led by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which has pushed for similar efforts in cities across the country.

Independent retailers who signed the puppy-friendly pledge received information that they will now be able to hand out to patrons on finding reputable breeders and adopting dogs. They also received placards to hang in their windows and display in their stores that read, “We love puppies; that’s why we don’t sell them.” Retailers that have signed the pledge so far include the Bark Bark Club and Tails in the City in Chicago, Cody and Carl’s Boulevard in Barrington, Follow Your Nose in Evanston, and Suburban Pet City in Oak Park, among many others.

Most of the 2 to 4 million puppies sold each year come from puppy mills, which breed large numbers of puppies in often questionable conditions, a

And a sad story of Tori Spellings, goes to show you the runt dogs, the smaller ones, and most pet store dogs, have serious health issues. That dog needed surgery by the time it was 6 months of age.
