Ever since Manny Pacquiao rejected the latest offer from Team Mayweather, his detractors have been heavily criticizing him saying that he's scared of "Money May". Despite the fact that Pacquiao has earned the right to receive a 50-50 split and his share of PPV revenue, Floyd and his legion of fans disagree. To make matters worse, Floyd insulted Manny's intelligence as well. According to a Tuesday February 28th report by ESPN.com, Mayweather made the following comments:
"Just by speaking to Pacquiao on the phone, I mean, he's not one of the sharpest knives in the drawer. He faces Floyd Mayweather, he's not getting 50-50. Not at all. No one is getting 50-50."
Manny and Floyd have had comparable PPV buys over their last several fights. Just because Floyd offers Manny a higher guaranteed payday doesn't mean that Manny should not receive PPV revenue. What if the roles were reverse and Manny offered Floyd 50 to 60 million dollars in guaranteed pay but said that Floyd wouldn't get any PPV revenue? Do you think Floyd would accept that?
Floyd would go on to state that he wants the fight with Pacquiao but that Arum is causing the problems because Bob is greedy. However, Floyd completely dismisses the notion of fairness when it comes to the fight purse and the PPV revenue.
Because of the unwillingness to offer a 50-50 split, Manny rejected the offer and Mayweather decided to fight Miguel Cotto instead. This left Manny to accept a fight with undefeated Tim Bradley on June 9th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Not only is Mayweather's fight offer an insult, but taking a cheap shot at Manny's intelligence level is absurd. When Manny is fighting Bradley on June 9th, Floyd Jr. will be behind bars serving a 90 day jail sentence which begins on June 1st. It seems clear to me who's "not one of the sharpest knives in the drawer." For more on ESPN's report, click here.
