Manny Pacquiao may throw fists with Saul Alvarez

Provided the two camps can agree on a catchweight, Michael Koncz told the Manila Standard that Manny Pacquiao against Saul Alvarez is “a fight we'll probably do next year.”

"It will be a substitute for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr and will be the next biggest fight and may very well rival a Manny-Floyd fight,” said Koncz, who works as Pacquiao’s adviser.

“We cannot go into the ring if there is no catchweight. It's too dangerous. We are not trying to get any advantage but just trying to protect the health of Manny.”

The 35-year-old Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) earned a unanimous decision over Timothy Bradley to capture the WBO welterweight title in April.

Pacquiao officially trumped the 30-year-old Bradley (31-1-0-1, 12 KOs) by scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112.

Displaying elite footwork and the uncanny ability to deliver punches from all angles, an extremely aggressive Pacquiao used his southpaw stance to pepper Bradley with straight left hands.

The “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s by the BWAA was periodically careless and even borderline reckless.

Fortunately for the Filipino icon, Bradley possesses feathery fists and was incapable of seriously hurting Pacquiao.

Bradley, who claimed to suffer a right calf injury in the first round, is quick, tough and gutsy.

Fighting like a man possessed, Bradley landed hard body shots and tried to will himself to greatness.

Regardless, supremely prepared for this sequel, Pacquiao again proved to be too dominant for “Desert Storm.”

An eight-division world champ, “The Fighting Pride of the Philippines” may scrap juicehead Juan Manuel Marquez on November 22 in China.

Conversely, the 23-year-old Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) will battle Erislandy Lara on July 12 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Rebounding from a loss to Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs), Alvarez last vacated the squared circle in March after outclassing Alfredo Angulo to earn an empathic 10th round TKO.

Using brilliant movement and a diversified attack, Canelo constantly landed left hooks, straight rights and uppercuts.

Looking sharp, fast and powerful, Alvarez quickly established that the 31-year-old Angulo (22-4, 18 KOs) wasn’t a worthy adversary.

Although Lara’s awkward stance could pose problems, Alvarez is a fierce redhead who will easily penetrate “The American Dream’s” guard.

Hence, Alvarez versus Pacquiao is “a fight we'll probably do next year.”

Although it’s far too premature to predict a victor, Manny Pacquiao and Saul Alvarez would give boxing fans the “biggest fight” of 2015.
