The match-up is set. Mankato West will travel to Chaska High School this Friday, November 1 at 7PM central time. The game will be a battle between two duel-threat quarterbacks, and the winner will take the class 2AAAAA bracket.
The Hawks, who were undefeated at 8-0 during the regular season, pose a tough challenge for Mankato West. Since an opening week shootout back in August, the Hawks’ have only allowed an astonishing 9.5 points per game. Over that same period their offense, lead by quarterback Justin Arnold, has put up 42 points per game. Arnold isn’t much of a passing threat, but is efficient enough to confuse defenses and create running lanes for himself and his backs. Lead back Kolby Seiffert ran for over 1100 yards and 14 touchdowns in 8 games, while Arnold had 800 yards rushing and passing, with 21 total touchdowns.
This is a run-first team that takes advantage of the opportunities created by their defense. Defensive back Peyton Sanders lead the team with 4 of the teams 17 forced turnovers.
The West Mankato Scarlet will have to control the ball and limit their mistakes against this ball-hawking unit. Turnover’s haven’t been an issue this year, but they have to be careful here. Expect a huge performance on the ground from QB Ryan Schlichte.
The weather on Friday is expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures in the high 40s.
