After a week of postponements, the limited run concert engagement of Barry Manilow at the St. James Theatre in New York City will have its official opening tonight, January 29. The show, “Manilow on Broadway” was forced to cancel performances from January 22 - 28 which included the official Opening Night, January 24 as Mr. Manilow suffered from a severe bout of bronchitis. All performances that were cancelled have been rescheduled and as of now, the show is scheduled to extend to March 2, 2013.
In a statement made by his producers when the show was announced on Oct. 22, 2012, they said: "Manilow is returning to the place where it all began, his hometown, New York City, with a new concert series on Broadway — marking his return to The Great White Way for the first time in more than two decades." Tickets for the show have been in demand with a range of prices from $50 to $350. There are even a limited number of rush tickets that will be reserved for every performance. Those rush tickets may be purchased the same day as the show for a fee of $20 at the St. James Theatre Box Office at 246 W. 44th Street beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Manilow has been ranked as the top Adult Contemporary chart artist of all time according to R&R (Radio and Records). He had 25 consecutive Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1975 and 1983. Manilow is a Grammy Award winner and has sold 80 million records. He also wrote the music for the shows “Harmony” and “Copacabana”.
His live shows are legendary and his fan base is huge and known for their enthusiasm towards him.
