Manhunt underway for ex-LAPD cop on a shooting rampage targeting LAPD officers

A massive manhunt is underway for a former LAPD officer, who allegedly killed a couple over the weekend and is the suspect in two separate shootings of police officers today. A former head of LAPD’s Major Crimes Division reports that the search for Christopher Dorner is like “no other” manhunt the LAPD ever conducted. The department is using every resource available to find Dorner, according to CBS News on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

One of the victims that Dorner is suspected of killing is a daughter of a former police captain who represented him during his disciplinary proceedings. Dorner wrote a manifesto that is filled with rage and he threatened to take his anger out against the LAPD and their families.

Fox News live on Thursday is calling this the “biggest manhunt that the LAPD has ever undertaken.” Dorner is accused of killing three people on his murderous rampage and he is still at large and believed to be heavily armed.

A police officer is one of the three that Dorner has allegedly fatally gunned down. The ex-cop was in two separate incidents today where he shot at police officers. This occurred just east of L.A in Riverside County.

In the first incident two L.A. police officers were working a security detail and one officer was grazed by a bullet that allegedly came from Dorner’s gun. The second incident happened just a while later when the suspect came across two officers on routine patrol. Dorner allegedly ambushed them while they were at a stop light. One of the officers died and the other was taken into surgery. There is no news on his condition at this time.

Dorner was fired from the LAPD back in 2008 for making false statements. Unfortunately, his training as a law enforcement officer might help him keep the LAPD at bay, as his whereabouts are still unknown.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith of the LAPD reports:

"We're asking our officers to be extraordinarily cautious just as we're asking the public to be extraordinarily cautious with this guy. He's already demonstrated he has a propensity for shooting innocent people. We can't provide a lot of information now because we're trying to capture him.” Smith continued with, "We don't know where he is. We're looking for the public's help to locate this guy. Anybody who sees him or believes they see him or his vehicle should call 911."

Dorner’s police badge and his ID were found near San Diego’s airport earlier today. He is a wanted man for the deaths of Monica Quan and her fiancé, Keith Lawrence. This is the couple he allegedly shot, their bodies were found in a car on Sunday night in a parking structure at their condominium.

Both had multiple gunshot wounds. Monica is the daughter of the police captain who represented Dorner when he went in front of the disciplinary board after he was found to have made false statements.

Apparently Dorner’s manifesto implicated him in their murders. The multi page manifesto included threats against several people. Some of the people Dorner threatened in this document are members of the LAPD.
