Mandy Patinkin on 'Three Rivers' helps bring show to series high

Three Rivers reached a series high last night with 8.5 million viewers and a 2.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating according to the Hollywood Reporter and TV by the Numbers. With Mandy Patinkin's heartbreaking guest-appearance, it seems the series was given a much needed boost. But will the ratings hold up? There was some NFL overlapping which may have slanted the ratings. Hopefully, when the final ratings come in, the numbers will stay up.

In "The Luckiest Man," Patinkin played Victor, an ALS patient who wants to terminate life support and donate his organs to patients in the hospital. If you missed the episode, here's a look at one of his memorable scenes.

Even with the ratings boost of 11%, the show is still in danger and likely to be canceled. No new episodes, beyond the original 13 episode pick-up, have been ordered. Three Rivers itself seems to be on the waiting list. Hopefully, the show will find the miracle they need to stay on the air, and CBS orders more episodes along with a full season pick-up.

You can watch the full episode of "The Luckiest Man" on the official CBS website. Three Rivers airs regularly on CBS Sunday nights at 9/8 c.

Sound off Below: What did you think of Mandy Patinkin's guest appearance on Three Rivers? Does he deserve an Emmy nod? Was it the best episode yet?

Mandy Patinkins role of the ALS paitient was phenominal. He showed selflessness, strength, and Grace to give so many families hope for their loved ones. *I REALLY HOPE HE WILL SEE THIS. THERE HAS NOT BEEN THAT DRAMAITIC A SHOW ON TV IN A WHILE. HE TOOK THAT CHARCTER AND GAVE IT STRENGTH AND GRACE. HE HAS TO BE NOMINATED FOR A GOLDEN GLOBE. IF HE DOESN'T ITS A CRIME

There are no words to describe the depth of emotion that Mandy Patinkin displayed in this episode. He portrayed this character with dignity, intelligence and love. He truly deserves an award for this episode. As well, this episode was excellent. The ending was absolutely perfect. This is the type of episode one should 'save' on their hard drive to watch over and over, to periodically reminded of the beauty of the human spirit and the depth of love for humankind.
