A Manchester Police officer, assigned to the Street Crimes unit arrested a woman Thursday night, December, 5 for attempting to run her boyfriend over with her SUV, according to a Manchester Police press release.

Police said 26 year-old Omayra Morales, of 84 Karatzas Avenue is charged with Felony Reckless Conduct; Simple Assault and Possession of Controlled Drug and was issued a summons for Child Restraints and Operating on a Sidewalk. Her boyfriend, Merlin Garcia- Santos, 28, of Manchester, was also arrested. He is charged with Resisting Arrest.

The press release stated that a Street Crimes officer was operating an unmarked vehicle at about 9:45 p.m. when he observed a disturbance at Cedar and Wilson Streets. The officer reportedly saw a silver SUV, operated by a woman, stopped in the middle of the intersection. A male was outside the driver’s door and engaged in a physical altercation with the driver through the open window.

The man disengaged and began to walk away from the SUV, heading north when the woman in the SUV apparently followed after him and then pulled to the side of the road after a short distance. The woman got out of the SUV, ran to the man and began to assault him by punching him. The man disengaged again and began to move away from her on foot.

Police said the officer observed the woman return to the vehicle and pull away from the curb, heading north on Wilson Street, then cross into the oncoming lane towards the area where the man was walking. She continued towards the man, driving up onto the sidewalk in an apparent attempt to strike him with the vehicle, however he was able to jump out of the way.

The vehicle then came to an abrupt stop and at that point the man ran to the driver’s door and again engaged the woman in a physical confrontation through the open window. At that time the officer was able to catch up to the feuding couple and grab hold of the man pulling him away from the escalating encounter. The officer subdued the man after a brief struggle. He was identified as Merlin Garcia- Santos, who was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest.

Meanwhile, additional officers arriving on scene to assist, stopped and detained the woman. She was identified as Omayra Morales.

Subsequent to further investigation, police observed a four-year-old child in the rear seat of the vehicle. The child was not in a car seat, nor was she wearing a seat belt. Additionally, a suspected marijuana cigarette (joint) was also found in the vehicle. Based on the information gathered at the scene, Morales was arrested and charged with the aforementioned crimes. The child, who was not injured in the incident, was released to a relative.
