A Thursday press release by Manchester Police stated that officers of the department’s Street Crime Unit arrested a Massachusetts man on numerous drug-related charges yesterday afternoon.
Craig Johnson, 21, of Dorchester, MA is charged with Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Crack Cocaine), Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Crack Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Controlled Drug (Marijuana), Falsifying Physical Evidence and Obstructing Government Administration.
Police stated that on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, two officers from the Manchester Police Department Street Crime Unit observed a man at approximately 4:30 p.m. as he entered the passenger seat of a waiting motor vehicle in the area of 452 Pine Street.
Detectives Aaron Brown and Richard Valenti witnessed the man enter the vehicle, operated by Duana Gosselin. After witnessing a motor vehicle infraction, they conducted a motor vehicle stop on High Street at Chestnut Street.
The man in the passenger seat agreed to step out of the vehicle and was identified as Craig Johnson by Detective Brown. As the two were conversing, Detective Brown noticed a clear plastic bag attached to an item in Johnson’s pocket. The plastic bag fell to the ground when Johnson removed the item from his pocket. The bag contained a substance that Detective Brown believed to be crack cocaine. He then arrested Johnson for Possession of a Narcotic Drug. A search incident to arrest revealed Johnson was in possession of additional drugs.
After booking at the Manchester Police Department, Johnson was transported to the Hillsborough County House of Corrections, where additional drugs were located, including marijuana. Bags of crack cocaine were individually packaged and based on the packaging and the amount of packages, Johnson was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute. The driver, Gosselin, was not charged in this case.
