Located in the Karcher Mall area is a restaurant with a nationally known name, the Outback Steakhouse. However, this one is a special one; there is a reason.
Going to this Outback to eat is much the same as any Outback. They have the same Australian theme–the pictures on the walls and the menu offerings. There is also the nicety of a greeter opening the door for you as you enter. Those seem to be pretty standard whatever the location. But, in this particular establishment, that is just the beginning.
Not too long ago a community person stopped in for a bite to eat. Of course, that is what the restaurant is all about; nothing new here. Only this particular individual had a food allergy. She could not eat margarine (most restaurants provide a whipped mix), could not eat the kind of bread served, couldn’t have certain spices, and could only eat specific vegetables.
Most eateries do their best to serve the clients. And while you can have your steak done in various shades of pink or red and choose the kind of potatoes and veggies you want, you usually get pretty standard meals that are prepared in a pre-determined manner. The Karcher Outback is no different.
The waiter taking the allergic person's order made a great effort to meet her needs. Then, there was a very special touch added; the manager, Jeremy Draper, came out.
With a smile on his face and a positive voice, Jeremy worked with the patron to meet her needs. Going beyond the requests she was making, he offered several suggestions. He made sure that every possible accommodation was made. He worked with the server as a team member–not taking over, yet not just being a passer by.
That was not the end. He came back several times to make sure everything was as close as possible to meeting the lady’s needs. Overall, this manager showed more than money concerns; he showed a willingness to do whatever he could to be of service.
The woman has returned several times. Although there are hundreds of customers that eat at the Outback at that location, Jeremy recognizes the lady, and is always willing to help.
Jeremy’s kind of action is a worthwhile focus. It is good for people. It is good for business (The Wrong Bottom Line & How to Change It).
