Mana Vault powers up Masters Edition 4

Mana Vault will be enjoying a rare slot in Magic: The Gathering Online's Masters Edition 4 (ME4), confirmed via spoiler at Classic Quarter.  Mana Vault's little box full of colorless mana hasn't seen the light of play since 5th Edition, and it's going to be great fun to "dredge" this mana accelerating artifact storage unit back up.

Mana Vault doesn't untap during your untap step.

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay 4.  If you do, untap Mana Vault.

At the beginning of your draw step, if Mana Vault is tapped, it deals 1 damage to you.

T: Add 3 to your mana pool

Mana Vault, Sol Ring and Voltaic Key on turn 1 seems classy in a Vintage format doesn't it?  With Magic: The Gathering Online looking into the "untapped" potential in the old classic cards to bring a robust Legacy/Vintage format online, Mana Vault is an inclusion that fits perfectly into the mold of the Masters Edition series.

If you've never gotten a chance to play with it before, Mana Vault offers some of the fastest mana acceleration around, with a minor drawback that's fairly easy to play around and can be avoided completely with other tools, like the aforementioned Voltaic Key.  Heck, you can easily lay out a turn 2 Venser, The Sojourner with Mana Vault and then blink the box.

Mana Vault is currently restricted in both Vintage and Legacy formats, as multiple copies would present a degenerate and reliable source of quick mana that can go infinite with other card interactions.  Look to crack open this cache of resources when Mana Vault and Masters Edition 4 hit the Magic: The Gathering Online scene on January 10, 2011.
