A man who said he was acting on behalf of a land and cattle owner faces a judge tomorrow, June 26, 2009, for shooting two dogs that wandered onto a fenced-in property in Orlando. The state attorney's office charged Christopher Comins with two felony counts of animal cruelty.
As this story explains, Comins shot two Siberian huskies that were off their leashes. A tourist captured the shooting on video.
Under Florida law, property owners can shoot dogs if the canines harass and attack cattle, or act aggressively. The shooting sparked international outrage and debate. The Animal Legal Defense Fund asks supporters to attend the hearing.
