A man who killed his son for insurance money was sentenced to 15 years in prison. On Dec. 16, ABC News reported that Karl Karlsen, 53, pleaded guilty to a second degree murder charge last month. Karlsen murdered his 23-year-old son, Levi Karlsen, by "shifting a truck off a jack" and onto him back in 2008. While that might have looked like an accident... it wasn't.
"The death had been ruled an accident but Karlsen eventually admitted to jumping into the cab of the truck, causing it to fall, and leaving his son to die underneath while he attended an event with his wife," ABC News reported.
The man who killed his son for insurance was $700,000 richer after collecting the money on a policy that he took out on Levi just 17 days before murdering him -- but that money won't do him any good now. The judge who presided over the case had no mercy for Karlsen and told him that he deserved to stay in prison until he dies. When given the chance to speak, Mr. Karlsen had nothing to say.
"No remorse, no 'I'm sorry,' no apologies, nothing. A parent would do anything to save a child's life if they have the option and he did the opposite... kill his son," said District Attorney Barry Porsch.
Now, the man who killed his son for insurance money will pay the ultimate price -- but is 15 years enough time?
