Estranged husband allegedly guns down woman as she attempts to drive away

A 35-year-old woman is dead, shot multiple times as she attempted to drive away from a home Monday in southwest Atlanta.

Now police are searching for her estranged husband in connection with her murder after he was allegedly seen driving away from the scene seconds after her vehicle crashed.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman as Mrs. Melanie McQueen-Moultrie.

The investigation began around 5:30 p.m. when officers responded to a call of a person shot on Emerald Court, according to Atlanta police.

“Upon arrival officers located a female who appeared to have been shot multiple times and was deceased at the scene,” police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the female was shot while inside a vehicle. The vehicle then collided with a nearby mailbox where it came to rest.”

Homicide investigators responded to the scene spoke with witnesses and processed the crime scene.

They learned that the woman’s estranged husband, Mr. Dondrelle Moultrie, who is in his mid-30s, left the scene in a 2008 Teal Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with Georgia tag BCQ8516.

And now they are searching for the man in connection with his estranged wife's murder, Officer Chafee said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Dondrelle Moultrie or the 2008 Silverado is asked to call 911 or contact the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit at (404) 546-4235.
