A man was shot multiple times and killed while visiting a friend Sunday night at an apartment complex east of downtown Atlanta.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the name of the victim who officials said was in his 30s.
So far, police have not identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting. It’s also unclear how many others were present when the man was murdered.
The shooting happened around 11:35 p.m. at the Auburn Glenn Apartments at 49 Boulevard, according to Atlanta police.
Officers responded to the scene after getting a report of a person shot and found the victim lying at the threshold of an apartment, police spokesman Sgt. Gregory Lyon said. He did not say who called 911.
“The male was not breathing or responsive at time of the officer’s arrival,” Sgt. Lyon said.
The victim was visiting a friend when he answered a knock on the door, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“It was at that time we believe a suspect produced a handgun and discharged a weapon several times, fatally injuring the victim in this case,” Atlanta police Major Keith Meadows told Channel 2.
It's unclear how long the man had been at the apartment before he was shot and it's unclear if he was the intended target.
