Seattle man accused of using porn magazines as robbery prop

There are a lot of tactics used by criminals to steal from people. Some use a direct approach while others use manipulation or deceit. Placing a box of porn on the ground then pretending to be a Seattle police officer counts as the latter.

Ryan James Purdy is wanted in Seattle for impersonating a police officer and theft. Since December, Purdy has flashed a fake police badge in and around Volunteer Park and Woodland Park.

Purdy approached a man at Woodland Park on Feb. 10 carrying a box of pornographic magazines. Purdy, pretending to be a cop, asked the man to inspect the magazine. The man took the box to his car in an attempt to prevent children in the park from seeing or taking the magazine.

That's when Purdy made his move.

The man entered into his car when Purdy hopped in as well. Flashing his badge and claiming to be working a 'drug sting', Purdy began a pat down of the man. Purdy removed the man's wallet, scanning through it.

Purdy let the man go, returning the wallet. Purdy took his box of pornography with him as he left the scene.

It wasn't until an hour later the man realized his bank card had been stolen and used at a grocery store. He contacted police who are still searching for Purdy and his box of pornographic magazines.
