It was decreed on Dec. 19 that Theodore Wafer of Dearborn Heights, Mich., will have to stand trial for the Nov. 2 shooting death of 19-year-old Renisha McBride – the intoxicated teen who appeared on Wafer’s front porch seeking assistance after being involved in a car accident.

Wafer will be facing charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter - death by weapon aimed with intent but without malice, and felony firearm, as a result of shooting McBride in the face with a shotgun, according to USA Today.

The teen ended up on the front porch of Wafer’s home several hours after being involved in a car accident around 12:57 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 2 when she hit a parked car not too far from Wafer’s residence.

The prosecutor’s press release stated that McBride left the scene of the car accident, and “was observed to have blood on her body and appeared to be disoriented when she left the scene on foot," according to CBS News.

Hours later at 4:42 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a fatal shooting at the home of Theodore P. Wafer. When police arrived on the scene, they found Renisha McBride shot dead on Wafer’s front porch.

Wafer’s house was about one half mile from where McBride had her car accident in the greater Detroit area.

McBride’s toxicology report report indicated that the teen “had a .218 blood alcohol level at the time of her death, more than twice the legal limit for driving.” The toxicology report also showed that Renisha had marijuana in her system.

Wafer told police that Renisha McBride was shot when his gun “accidentally went off.”
