Man tattoos pit bull, ignites criticizm

Pinnacle, North Carolina tattoo artist Ernesto Rodriguez has garnered some criticism over a photo he posted on his Facebook account. The image shows a tattoo on one of his pit bulls--Duchess-- that shows the dog's bloodlines. The image had been there a while, but since it was on the dog's belly few people noticed. Rodriguez states that the animal was sedated and no harm was done.

However, Rodriguez has come under criticism over the photo, with some calling for his animals to be taken from him and possible jail time for animal abuse. Though the controversy earned Rodriguez's shop--Planet Ink Tattoos--a visit from the local Health Department which closed the shop due to zoning violations, animal control found he had violated no laws.

This story brings a new issue with some animal rights groups advocating tattooing and microchiping of pets for identification purposes. While this issue may be controversial, it is safe to say if Duchess should get loose, it won't be difficult to identify her.
