A wave of crime seems to have hit Bernal lately. In the most recent incident, a 32-year-old man checked himself into S.F. General on Monday after having been stabbed in the head by a friend. The attack occurred at the housing projects on Ellsworth Street.
The man is expected to survive.
Here's another troubling incident that occurred on Ellsworth in June.
Last week, on Oct. 5, 28-year-old Richard Fowler was killed on Franconia Street by an acquaintance, Anthony Wright. Fowler was shot in the head.
Police always deny that the crime rate has gone up, but anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that the recession is taking its toll. Concerned about the crime rate in your area? Check this handy, interactive S.F. crime map to see a report of incidents in your neighborhood.
Crimes are shown by type, and it was disturbing to see the number of assaults in a weeklong period when I put in an address on Andover Street.
