Man slaps crying baby: Was slap racially motivated?

Did an old man really slap a crying baby on a Delta Airlines flight? Apparently so, at least according to the mother’s baby on the flight.

Joe Rickey Hundley was charged with assaulting a minor on Friday after being accused of slapping a 2-year-old baby in the face as a Delta flight prepared to land in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to Jessica Bennett, the 2-year-old child’s mother, Hundley became irate with the child started screaming on the plane due to the altitude change. Despite the mom’s efforts to soothe the child, the man slaps the crying baby in question.

Adding insult to injury, Hundley is also accused of saying “shut that ('N word') baby up” before assaulting the child.

According to CNN, the child suffered a scratch under his right eye due to the assault.

Once other passengers heard both the slur and slap, they rushed to the aid of Bennett.

Despite Hundley’s advanced age, this isn’t his first time having a run-in with the law. In fact in 2007, Hundley pleaded guilty in Virginia to a misdemeanor assault charge.
