According to KBOI2.com on Feb. 15, a 60-year-old Idaho man has been charged with assault for allegedly slapping a baby boy on an Atlanta-bound flight.
The affidavit says Joe Rickey Hundley of Hayden, Idaho, slapped an infant boy during a Delta Air flight from Minneapolis on Feb. 8.
The child’s mother reportedly told authorities the baby was crying as the plane began to land. She said Hundley was sitting next to her and slapped the boy in his face, causing a scratch under his right eye. Along with the slap came a nasty racial epithet. Hundley reportedly told her to “shut that n****r baby up.”
Several passengers stepped up to help the mother, including male passenger Todd Wooten. Wooten was sitting a few rows in front of the mom, baby and Hundley, and came to help after hearing the language used. The infant boy began crying louder after the slap.
Hundley was not taken into custody but will face charges of simple assault when the case goes to court. "We think that it is important to let the case develop, and we'll see how it all comes out," Hundley's attorney Marcia Shein said Friday.
