Man slaps crying baby: 2-year-old called 'N-word'

A man slaps a crying baby on a Delta Airlines flight and called him the "N-word." On Feb. 15, CNN reported that an Idaho man has been charged with assaulting a minor after he hit the 2-year-old boy -- and uttered a racial slur at him to boot.

"The boy's mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, of Minnesota told the FBI that... [her son] began crying because of the altitude change, and [she] tried to soothe him," court papers said. Joe Rickey Hundley, an older man, took matters in to his own hands, saying "shut that ('N word') baby up" out loud for everyone to hear.

When a man slaps a crying baby -- especially one that isn't his own child -- it can be considered child abuse. In this case, it definitely sounds like Hundley assaulted the child and many hope that he will pay for his actions and his choice of words. Not only did he not have a right to lay his hands on the child, his language was beyond offensive and should not be tolerated.

Other passengers reportedly tried to help Jessica Bennett after the incident. Her toddler son had a scratch under his eye after he was hit and, of course, the smack made him even more upset.

The man who slapped the crying baby could face up to one year in prison according to court documents.
