A 35-year-old Detroit man walked out on a bill at a Ferndale restaurant Tuesday, then led police on a high speed chase that ended with the man’s arrest for fleeing and eluding and refusing to pay his bill.
The action started last night at a Buffalo Wild Wings on 9 Mile Road in Ferndale. An employee called the police and reported a ‘dine and dash’ on a $16 check.
The employee was able to give police a good description of the suspect’s car and the suspect, who turned out to be Marion Cortez Stanfield, a man with a criminal history.
An officer soon spotted the car, and pulled it over at Livernois and Pembroke.
The officer gave Stanfield an option of going back to the restaurant and paying the bill. Instead, Stanfield shifted into drive and took off, forcing the officer and a sergeant to jump back.
A high speed chase ensued along Livernois and 7 Mile. The officers broke off the chase, mainly because they knew where Stanfield lived.
Police staked out the neighborhood and busted Stanfield when he came home and tried to get in his house.
Stanfield was arraigned Wednesday afternoon, with bond set at $15,000.
