Man shot to death, woman wounded while visiting north Columbia home

A man was shot to death and a woman injured while visiting a home in north Columbia early Sunday morning.

So far, officials have not released the names of the victims and no suspect has been arrested in the double shooting.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at a home the 1500 block of Cody Street, according to Columbia police. Witnesses told police that both victims, who did not reside at the home, were inside at the time of the shooting, police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.

The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, Timmons said. And the woman was transported to a local hospital. Hospital staff told investigators that her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Timmons said.

Investigators are still gathering information to determine a motive for the shooting. So far, they have not released any details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, except to say it was not a home invasion.

It's also unclear howmany people were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is also assisting in the investigation and is expected to release the identity and autopsy result of the deceased victim Monday.
