Man shot by homeowner during home invasion turns out to be serial burglar

A serial burglar case in Madison County, Kentucky has been solved after a homeowner in Garrard County shot an intruder during an attempted break-in last month. 26-year-old Jarred Pitman was hospitalized after being shot, where he was interviewed by police officers and eventually confessed to the other robberies, reports LEX18 on Wednesday, March 6.

Police started investigating the robberies in Madison County in January. The one common factor was that the burglar was known to drive a black SUV. After officers discovered that Pitman had been shot in the home invasion, they soon discovered that a black SUV was used in that robbery as well. This prompted officers to question Pitman while he was in the hospital recovering from the gunshot wound. Upon questioning, he confessed to the other robberies.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputy Willard Reardon explains that sometimes one investigation into a crime turns into several investigations. In this case, the swift actions of the homeowner in February not only stopped his own home invasion, but eventually helped to solve a whole string of robberies.
