A man allegedly shot his girlfriend multiple times and then turned the gun on himself Wednesday night inside a DeKalb County home where three childrenwere also present.
The man died but the woman survived, according to DeKalb County police.
On Thursday, the medical examiner’s office identified the man as Mr. Marcus Stovall, 40, of Ellenwood. Police have not released the name of the woman who was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition.
The unidentified woman's mother was also inside the home when the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m., police spokesman Capt. Steven Fore said.
Investigators said a domestic dispute led to the double shooting at the home in the 3000 block of Rockmill Drive. And it was the woman’s mother who called 911 to report the shooting, Capt. Fore said.
"We located a female inside that had multiple gunshot wounds," Capt. Fore said. "We located the suspect inside, deceased from what we believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound."
One person was found in the den and the other in the kitchen, Lt. Byron Holmes with DeKalb police told Channel 2 Action News.
The three children were later removed during the investigation, according to media reports.
Police have not said what caused the dispute. Capt. Fore said he knows of no prior report of domestic violence between the couple.
